Have you heard about temporary health insurance? As its name suggests this policy lasts for a short period of time, usually 6 to 12 months. There are shorter health insurance policies which could run up to as short as 30 days.

Students and those in-between jobs can take advantage of the flexibility offered by this health insurance policy. This is also good while waiting to be covered by a group insurance plan. Also, people in good health can take out this health insurance policy which could be cheaper albeit risky as they could develop a serious medical condition afterwards and not be covered long-term.

Usually, it is just like any long term policy in that you will get the insurance card and you will also get the deductible and the typical limits on the services once you sign up for it. The major difference of course is the length of time that the policy will be made available to you. Also, there are differences when it comes to limitations.

Just as in long-term health insurance policies, short-term ones will not cover pre-existing conditions. So if you have been diagnosed with a medical condition before applying for a short-term or temporary insurance policy, it could not be used to cover costs that may arise from medication of your pre-existing medical condition.
